Janet Khachikian Shahkaramian
(KhachKar)

I am an Armenian born in Tehran, Iran in 1952. From early childhood I had great love of colors and paintings. The paintings on my website are collection of my work since 1989. All of my paintings have an Armenian theme. They consist of my imagination of Armenian children stories or verses of poems or simply the Armenian Alphabet.

Years ago, I wrote a poem encouraging diaspora Armenians to try to preserve their language. Around the same time, I started painting the Armenian Alphabet and giving it away as wedding presents. Recently, I put my mind into painting the Armenian Alphabet and also creating original family emblems with the Armenian Alphabet as my niche in painting.

I'm hoping to put an original  Armenian Alphabet painting or emblem in as many Armenian homes in the diaspora as possible and thus promote and encourage our young children and families to try their hardest to preserve our unique language in the world. I think it would be a special blessing for any new couple, grandchild or anybody with a special birthday or baptism to receive an original, unique Armenian Alphabet painting or emblem representing his/her name or family name. These unique paintings will stay in your family as an heirloom and would be passed on for generations to come. I put my love and blessing in each of my paintings and try to make it as colorful and unique as possible for you to enjoy, love and cherish all your life. In every picture there is a guardian angel or a symbol of blessing. Not only do I want you to obtain one of my paintings, but this is also my way of encouraging you to hang onto your Armenian language and be a rightful heir to your heritage.

Please read my poem which is dedicated to Armenians in diaspora. Hopefully you can read Armenian, but if not, please put an effort into learning just like you would if it was any other foreign language. The poem is translated in English, so for the time being I can relay my message to you.
My pictures, poem, editor's view and my art itself will tell you more about me than anything else. Please look and read.
To get in touch with me please email MrsArmenia@aol.com. I would love to hear your comments and talk to you.
I wish you all the best.
Amenayn Barik.
